Anna Gilkison's final service at JUC and farewell lunch
29 January 2017

After a nine year association with JUC (first part-time and then as full-time Minister), Anna Gilkison has said goodbye to take up an appointment as Senior Minister at the Hutt Uniting Parish.

In her final reflection she talked on the theme of love.   Anna said that without love there is no ministry and no successful Christian community.  Her challenge to everyone was "How can I be better at love?"  She urged us to be humble and aware of our own shortcomings, to demand less and try to give more.

"Study love so you can recognise it when you are offered it.   It is better to say sorry than do it perfectly.  We learn best from trying and failing.

"Love is all there is."

The pot luck service contained contributions from the JUC choir, a reflection on the Beattitudes by Luisa Villamu, a story of the prodigal son ready by Meg Lange and an action song led by Joan Barnes.

Lunch, speeches by all the Chairpeople from Anna's term and representatives of St Peter and Paul's church and gift giving wrapped up the occasion.

We wish Anna all the very best in her new role.

We will miss Anna's thoughtful contributions from the pulpit

The choir were in fine form in tribute to Anna's love of music

Angel, the Gilkison church house cat will be missed for his unique contribution to services
